Round 7 of the British Youth Championship saw the 250cc and 500cc titles won in a 30 heat extravaganza that was run in just under 2 hours.
The 500cc title was won by Drew Kemp who, with his closest challenger Daniel Gilkes unable to ride, only needed 3 points, which unfortunately with only two riders available to race, he did easily. He won all of his 5 races against Liam Little.
Leon Flint continued his progress in the sport by taking the 250cc title after an unbeaten display, winning all of his races in times faster than the 500 class! He should be a star in next season’s NL.
The 250cc saw some of the closest races with an amazing heat 12 where Jason Edwards and Jordan Palin rode wheel to wheel for almost two laps before Palin fell on the fourth bend.
The 125 category saw the largest group of riders with 17 taking part. Corban Pavitt was unbeaten in the qualifiers but he was beaten out of the start in the final by Harry McGurk who went on to win the race. McGurk getting revenge for losing out to Pavitt on the run in to the line in heat 18.
Others impressing in this category were Luke Harrison, Elliot Kelly, Alex Goldsburgh and Sonny Springer.
British speedway has its critics but there were a number of promising riders on show tonight and with luck and guidance, they will go on to become the next speedway stars.
